HISTORY
Doogle is a truly incredible bus. People that know of Herbie, Kit, The General Lee, The Bat Mobile will know that they all made both on screen and off screen appearances. RML2650
Doogle is a very special Routemaster bus, originally built in 1967 and serving the London public until 2004. Since coming out of service, he has been extensively modified to allow it’s use as a mobile self-contained entertainment centre. The bus has a bar, lounge, 2 sun decks and a further lounge/sleeping area upstairs. This is all supported by a quiet fitted generator, battery bank, water system and heaters.
The current owner, Cap'n Joe Phillips bought RML2650 in January 2011 from Ralph Weibel of Basel, Switzerland. Ralph who is an accomplished architect bought the bus straight out of service from London United in 2004 and had it lowered to meet European height restiction. He spared no expense ensuring the bus he aquired was in great condition and the work done was of the highest standard. It was used to tour Europe and paricuarily to go the Le Mans and watch the racing from the top deck.
The roof conversion is unique. Half of the top deck is completely open but has a specially made waterproof cover that can be installed in minutes if the skies turn grey. The front half has a secure, low ceiling lounge area. The roof of the front half has steps up to it and fitted folding steel rails that secure when parked. This means that you can sit safely on the roof of the bus for some amazing views that would normally be impossible.
On bringing the bus back the the UK, Joe set about transforming it to be a multipurpose, self contained way of entertaining people and promoting products or services. There are many additional features that now enable the bus to be fully independent of any power or water supply almost indefinitely:
• 5kw Cummings quiet diesel generator hidden under the stairs.
• 91 gallon fresh water system.
• 14 litre electric water heater
• 2 fridges
• sink with hot & cold water
• 2kw Eberspacher heater
• 250amp/hr leisure battery
• 12v, 24v, 110v and 240 volt available
• Lasers and fog machine
• Warm LED lights thoughout
• Sound system (iPod, USB & Aux in)
To round it all off, the bus is fitted with a modern 6 litre Cummings B diesel engine and a super smooth Allison automatic transmission. This means Blighty Bus can safely travel at 60mph instead of the standard 35mph, shortening your jouney times and reducing any envirnmental impact to a minimum.
You will NEVER see smoke coming from the exhaust of Blighty Bus. Our bus has a strict maintenance schedule and is kept in the best mechanical conditon at all times. The service record is available on request.
Cp'n Joe was born and raised in London and has dual US-UK citizenship thanks to American parents. He has worked for the last decade as a state registered paramedic in the London Ambulance Service. He started on Ambulances, then rapid response cars and for the last five years as a part of the motorcycle response unit covering the City and Hackney.
